Bob Birden, 78, Retired Dodson Farmer, Dies
Robert B. (Bob) Birden, 78, died at his home northeast of Dodson at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, January 14. Although he had been in ill health several years, his death was unexpected. He had been in Hollis Monday.
A retired farmer, he was active in the affairs of the community over a long period of years.
Mr. Birden was born in Indiana June 13, 1896, and had lived in the Dodson area since 1923.
He was a veteran of World War I.
He was married to Miss Mary Alice Bennett, member of a pioneer family of that area, about 50 years ago.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 16, in Coley Memorial Chapel at Hollis, with the Rev. Hoyt Ellis, Baptist minister, officiating. Burial was in Dodson Cemetery under the direction of Coley Funeral Home.
Pall bearers were Laverne Kizer, Gary Randall, Benny J. Defoor, Bill Holder, Danny Holder and Floyd Merida.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Alice Birden; one daughter, Mrs. Carter (Wanda) Holcomb of Wellington; one son, Bobby Birden of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie DeBuan and Mrs. Bill Fouch of Hemet, Calif.; two brothers, Monroe Birden of Hemet and Fred Birden of San Diego, Calif,; and four grandchildren.
