son of John and Dora Jones Frans

Miss Frances Farmer married James Madison Frans on 25 January 1842 at St. Charles, Missouri

The couple was living at St. Charles Creek, Missouri by 1843. By 1845, the family had moved to Texas living near Colbert's Ferry at Grayson County, Texas. Early Young County records show the family was living in the area now known as Fort Belknap in 1849. Fort Belknap was established in 1851 by the Federal government as a second line defense. The family continued to live in the area and moved to Shackelford county by 1855. With the continued disturbances of Indians during the Civil War, the family "forted" up living at Old Fort Davis during the Civil War.
