Pascual Marzan Apilado, 91, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, after a short illness. Mr. Apilado was born in the Philippines and was a resident of Vallejo for 30 years before moving to Fairfield in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Sgt. Apilado was involved in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the liberation of the Philippines. While in the Army, he received several commendations and awards, including the Distinguished Service Medal. After leaving the military in 1949, he continued serving the U.S. government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Church and Holy Spirit Church of Fairfield, the Ormoc City Club of California and the St. Jude Society. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rafaela, and his parents, Florentino and Anastasia. Survivors include his daughter, Cora (Tom) Puckett of Vallejo; sons, Benjamin (Susan) of Porterville and Jose (Joy) of Fairfield; sister, Corazon Pulanco of the Philippines; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Burial at All Souls Cemetery.
