Earl Louis Andersen, son of Carl C. Andersen and Johanna (Nelson) Andersen Milltown, WI. On Feb 1 his mother died, only 10 days after Earl's birth. Earl was taken into the home of his Aunt Ellen and Uncle Tinus Andersen, brother of Carl, where he was raised as their own. His 2 year old brother, Alvin was taken into the home of their maternal grandmother and raised to adulthood there. The boys always maintained a good relationship with their father and his second wife. Earl was baptized the day his mother died and confirmed his baptism in the Milltown Lutheran Church in 1925.

Earl's family moved several times, so he attended grade school in Milltown and Centuria and went to Sunnyview School until 1924. He attended Milltown High School until 1927 at the age of 17, at which time he started supporting himself and helping out at home between jobs. He did work as a harvest work hand in the Dakotas and other worker where available; such as in a cannery and apple picking in Washington and day labor in Wyoming.

In the spring of 1930, the family bought sa farm north of Center City where Earl helped his Uncle Tinus. Due to the drought and depression of the next nine years, he supported himself by working where ever he could. In 1937 he started working in the lumber yard in St. Paul, where he worked until the spring of 1939 when Uncle Tinus became ill and had to cease farming.

On March 18, 1939, Earl was united in marriage to Bertha Benson. They started operating the family farm and supported Tinus and Ellen until their deaths many years later. Bertha's mother made her home with them also for a couple of years.

As their was no children to bless this home, both Earl and Berta became active in social and civic activities. Bertha was a very talented person and became quite active in scenery and historic painting. Earl became a member of the Chisago Lakes Lutheran Church in 1941. Earl served on many boards and functions. In 1945 he was elected town clerk of Chisago Lakes, in which office he served for 46 years. He has seen the township change from a rural area to a residential and an occasional farm.

Earl also served over 20 years on county planning boards and also local creamery and co-op boards. As he had no close family, he kind of adopted the township as his responsibility. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge about 40 years and served as their treasurer for over 20 of those years.

Earl was an avid reader of historic affairs but could also enjoy the humorous aspects of life and worked hard to gain the respect of his fellowman and hoped to improve the lot of following generations.

Earl became a member of the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church about 1941.

"So live that when thy summons come to join that innumerable caravan that moves swiftly into the silent halls of death, thou goest not like a quarry slaves at night, scourged to his dungeon; but soothed and sustained by an Unfaltering Trust. Approach thy grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams."

Funeral services were held Monday Oct 21st Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, Center City. Interment at Hillside Cemetery.
