William Terry was born to Samuel and Mary (PEARSON) Terry in the small community of Oakworth, Yorkshire, England, on 29 Jan 1829. He trains in England for the occupation of stone cutter. William arrives here in the United States in 1854; and seeks employment working on the farm of William Pickles, in St. Genevieve, Missouri. While working for Mr. Pickles, William falls in love with Fanny his daughter. They are married on the 27th of December 1855 in St. Genevieve County, Missouri. The Civil War is personally devastating, for this little family, both Mr. and Mrs. Pickles are murdered, leaving four orphaned younger brothers and one sister. William and Fanny take on the responsibility of raising these children, and later having six children of their own. They are listed on the Federal Census Record of 1870, as living in Rich District of Union County, Illinois and by 1900 they are now settled in Goreville, Johnson County, Illinois. All of the siblings Fanny and William raised became productive respected citizens of the community, taking on occupation such as business men, bankers, teachers, and doctors. Their stewardship, was echoed in their children as well, they would create, own and operate the lumber yard, and canning factory, and also creating the first telephone service in Goreville. Today William and Fanny rest in peaceful repose side by side in the Friendship Cemetery. I am very proud to be their fourth generation Grand-daughter
