ELMIRA - A memorial service will be held Feb. 11 for Donald Earl Ames of Elmira, who died Feb. 6 of liver failure. He was 63.
Ames was born March 3, 1938, in Moorcroft, Wyo., to William and Hazel Huckins Ames. He married Diane Rush in 1959. They divorced in 1963. He married Gloria Flint in 1966. She died in 1970. Ames married Florence Morgan in Brookings on Dec. 21, 1975.
He lived in the Wyoming cities of Moorcroft, Upton and Gillette. He worked on a ranch, at a bentonite plant and as an oil worker. He moved in 1964 to Oregon, where he worked as a beekeeper.
Ames was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting. He especially enjoyed attending church and spending time with his family. Ames was a member of the Lane County Beekeepers Association and a former member of the Oregon State Beekeepers Association.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Paddy Shea of Broken Arrow, Okla., Donald Ames Jr. of New York and Mick Ames of Carl Junction, Mo.; four daughters, Sarah Shea of Bloomingburg, N.Y., Laura Ames and Lillian Ames, both of Eugene, and Autumn Lane; two brothers, William of Dumas, Texas, and Kenneth Ames of Moorcroft; nine sisters, Betty Swaim of Dexter, Mary Shepperson of Beulah, Wyo., Alice Strong of Upton, Elsie Tschetter and Irene Buckmiller, both of Moorcroft, Ruth Reynolds of Gillette, Lois Falls of Payson, Ariz., Jane Dowdy of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Linda Shedd of Amarillo, Texas; and 12 grandchildren. Two children, Teresa and William, died previously.
Monday's service will be at 11 a.m. at Olivet Baptist Church in Veneta. Burial will be at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City. Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
