Loren D. Bareiss, 67, Atchison, died Nov. 27, 2000 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was born Jan. 12, 1933 in Holton, the son of Ernest E. and Erma D. Cashman Bareiss. He and his family moved to Atchison in 1940, where he attended public school and graduated from Atchison High School in 1951. Mr. Bareiss served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Base. He was employed as an electrician at Rockwell International in Atchison for 23 years and retired early due to a disability. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served many years as a church elder and on the board of directors. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 6 and VFW Post 175, both of Atchison. He married Beverly A. Stevenson on Nov. 14, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Loren D. Bareiss, Jr., Gilbert, Ariz.; a daughter, Lori A. Lang, Olathe; his stepmother, Francis Bareiss, Atchison; three brothers, Ronald V. Bareiss and Ted Higley, both of Atchison, and Charles Higley, Leavenworth; two sisters, Doris Jean Ingels, Atchison, and Nancy Griffin, Steeleville, Ill.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Lee Bareiss, in 1974. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens with graveside presentation of the flag by American Legion Post 6. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Dream Fund III.
