Richard Chance Arndt, 68, Kansas City, MO, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012. Funeral services 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 14, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. The family suggests contributions to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104. Richard was born October 8, 1944 to Elmer G. and Ruth C. Arndt. He graduated Paseo High School in 1962 and then from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1967, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his release from active duty Richard attended UMKC School of Law from which he graduated in 1974, and was admitted to the Missouri Bar in September of the same year. Richard entered private practice and subsequently was employed by the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations for over 26 years, until his retirement. Richard enjoyed working with animals in humane and rescue work. He served on the boards of director for both Wayside Waifs Humane Society and the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. Richard was president of the Rottweiler Club and vice president of the Dachshund Club. He was the founder of K.C. Rottweiler and Dachshund Rescue which was in operation for 24 years. Richard volunteered as ring steward at pure breed shows and he did show one dog, an English mastiff named Cyrus to a championship. During their years together Richard and Cyrus were a fixture in the Plaza every weekend, greeting people and answering questions about the breed. In addition to law and animals Richard had varied interests. He was an avid reader from an early age. Richard closely followed politics. He was a founding member of Hilda Mcdilda and the Boys. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; Elmer G. and Ruth C. Arndt. He is survived by his wife, Ghizianna; his sister; Annette Williamson and his nephew Daniel C. Bailey. He was a friend of Bill William and Bob Smith since October 21, 1977.
