Billy Carlton Allen, 82, passed away Friday, December 16. Bill was born in Pine Barren, FL on December 22, 1928, the son of Bruce and Azaline Tucker Allen.
Bill received a B.S. in Accounting from Washington University and an MBA from Drury College. Bill was a lifelong railroad man, starting his career with Frisco Railway at age 17, eventually rising to the rank of Assistant Vice President - Information Systems. During his 46-year career he was one of the driving forces in the computerization of the railroad industry, including creating the UMLER tracking system that is still used today.
Bill served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War and taught an annual military railroad logistics class for the Army for many years. He was an active and beloved member of Kimberling City United Methodist Church. Bill also loved the outdoors: tending a garden, feeding hummingbirds, bass fishing and deer and pheasant hunting.
He is survived by his son Keith and wife Susan Tomazic-Allen of Grayslake, IL, daughter Chesney Allen of Overland Park, KS, and granddaughters Jessica and Melissa Allen, Grayslake, IL. Bill was predeceased by daughter Karen Allen-McGuire.
A memorial service will be held at Kimberling City United Methodist Church, 57 Kimberling City Center Lane, Kimberling Center, MO, at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, followed by inurnment with military honors at 2:00 p.m.at Rivermonte Cemetery, 4500 S.
