He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and attended college at Southwest Baptist College and Seminary at Oklahoma Baptist University. He also worked for the Missouri State Sanatorium in the dairy and later in the x-ray department. Willard was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a letter carrier for the post office, a farmer and school teacher at Mt. Comfort School.
Willard was most widely known for his work as a Baptist minister. Several of the Baptist church's he was privilaged to minister were; Ebenezer, Tebbetts, Curtis Chapel, New Hope, Hopewell, Chesapeake and eventually retiring as the associate and children's pastor for the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. He also served on the board of the LACOBA Nursing Home in Monett.
Suvivors include, his wife, Venita of 57 years, three sons, Ronald Duane and Lynn Ray Benbrook, Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Larry Dean Benbrook, Pennsboro, Missouri, three daughters, Irma Gail Grubaugh, Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Joyce Marie Towe, Billings,Missouri, Sandra Kaye Brown, Miller, Missouri, nine grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
His parents and brothers, Leo Carl and William Clifford Benbrook, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon with burial at Pritchett Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Pritchett Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
