Elsworth Edward Adams, of Rolla, passed away at his home on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at the age of 79.
He was born in Seaton, Mo., on Sept. 14, 1929, to the late Stirling and Mary Viola (Ketchum) Adams. He attended the St. James High School where is graduated in the class of 1948.
Mr. Adams served his country in the United States Army in the 6th Armed Division 39th ABN from 1951-1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star.
He retuned to work at the Tucker Dairy until 1963. Then he joined the J.C. Penney Co. until retirement in 1992.
In October of 1955, Elsworth married Erma Bailie and they were blessed with two children, son Steve and wife Kim, of St. Louis, Mo., and daughter Kelley and husband John Rustemeyer, of O'Fallon, Mo.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian and Josh Rustemeyer, and Sean and Katie Adams, one brother, two sisters, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Erma and three sisters.
Elsworth was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He also served on the Board of the Phelps County Hospital. He was a member of the Rolla Lions Club since 1978. Elsworth was a recipient of the Edward Dalstrom Distinguished Service Award from the Rolla Lions Club, and also the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services from the Lions Club International Foundation.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service Elsworth Adams will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at the Null & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Lee officiating.
Interment will follow in Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens.
