He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Grantham Lodge No. 725, past president of NARFE and Craven chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He served his country in the Army during WWII and he was an avid camper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Mary Adams; and two sons, William M. Adams Sr. and Robert Kenneth Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Grace; one son, James Oliver Adams and wife Karen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one grandson, William M. Adams Jr. and wife Christy Ann of Trinity; as well as seven other grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one stepson, Ray Nicholson and wife Betty of New Bern; two stepgrand-children, Steven Nicholson and Pamela Hamilton; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday May 2, 2007, at Cotten Chapel with the Pastor William L. Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
