Mrs. Clara Adams, 66, widow of the late John W. Adams, died in the early morning hours last Friday, February 27, at her home at 503 Highland avenue, this city, after a brief illness due to a heart ailment. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Floyd V. Brower, Methodist minister, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church and interment followed immediately at Little Prairie cemetery.
Mrs. Adams, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth A. Mooney, was born at Tiptonville, Tenn., December 23, 1875. She was married to Mr. Adams February 10, 1894, at her home in Tiptonville and the couple removed to this city two years later, where they had resided since and where for practically all the time Mr. Adams followed his trade as a barber, owning his own establishment most of the time.
Four children were born to them: W. Edward Adams of Kennett, Mrs. Nathan J. (Alice) Dann of Newcastle, Ind., Mrs. Jack A. (Ethel) Johnson of this city and Chas. W. Adams, who died February 22, 1918. Her husband preceded Mrs. Adams in death, June 28, 1939. Eight grandchildren also survive: Luther Tatum Adams; Claire Natalyn, Patsy Ann and J.A. Johnson, Jr., and Morton W., Doria Natalie, Jerold Adams and Bruce Michael Dann.
A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance at the funeral, where the following acted as pallbearers: Mssrs. Donald V. Magee, J.W. Davis, Hendrix Chitwood, V.W. McCoy, Felix Kyle, Chas. G. Ross, W.D. Byrd and H.T. Simpson. Honorary pallbearers, women friends of the deceased were Mdmes. V.W. McCoy, Nancy Blakemore, Beulah McCutchen, Minnie Graham, Ada Juden, Maude Jumper, W.D. Byrd, Alice Byrd and Etta Faust.
The deceased had been a member of the Methodist church here for a number of years and was known as a devout Christian, a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and a true friend to everybody within the circle of her acquaintance.
