Edward V. Allen, an energetic young farmer of the northern part of this county, is a native Missourian, born in Andrew County, November 4th, 1854. His father, Samuel Allen, came to this State from Kentucky when a young man, and was married here to Miss Mary Norville, also formerly of Kentucky. Of this union Edward V. was born, and when he was nine years old, in 1863, his parents moved to McDonough County, Illinois. But in 1871 they returned to this State and settled near Salisbury, in Chariton County, where the father is now engaged in farming. Edward V. as he grew up was given a good education in the common schools, and after he reached manhood engaged in farming on his own account. October 25, 1882, he was married to Miss Flora, an accomplished daughter of W. T. Dunn, Esq., of this county. Mrs. Allen was educated at the High School in Huntsville. In the spring of 1881, Mr. Allen bought the farm where he now lives. He has a place of 120 acres, neatly improved—a comfortable homestead. Mr. A. is a member of the Baptist church. His wife belongs to the M. E. denomination.
