Mr. Walter Allen was born May 4, 1924 to the union of Edward James and Elnora Allen in Memphis, Tennessee. Walter was the third of four children.
Walter confessed Christ as his Savior in 1936.
Walter served in the U.S Army during WWII and earned the Purple Heart. After serving his country, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years.
In 1954, Walter married Doris Richardson and together raised four children; Vanessa, Walter Vincent, Valinda, and Veda.
He graduated from Harris Teachers' College in 1966 and taught elementary school in the St. Louis Public Schools for four years. In 1968, he began a career with New York Life Insurance Company.
In 1986, he married Antoinette Redd.
Walter enjoyed lifelong friendships and the love and respect of colleagues and associates. He was an active member in his community. He participated in various youth and civic organizations, including the Mathews-Dickey Boys' Club and Toastmasters.
Walter became a member of Antioch Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Later in life, he became an member of Southern Mission Baptist Church of East St. Louis, Illinois.
On December 4, 2000, he departed this life in Richmond Heights, Missouri.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Antoinette Allen; four children, Vanessa Allen, Walter V. Allen, Valinda Allen, and Veda Allen-Campbell; three grandchildren, Aisha, Hana, and Sulaiman; two great-grandsons, Cyrus Palmer and Jalen Edwards; one sister, Dorotha Newsome, and a host of other relatives and friends.
