Clifton Eugene "Gene" Cowens, 84 of Thomasville, MO died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 28, 1916, at Rover, the son of Elijah Mark and Bessie Adeline Redburn-Cowens.
He served with the 19th General Hospital in Nancy, France, before being transferred to the 51st Stationed Hospital in England.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Cowens, of the family home; two sons, Ronnie Cowens of Thomasville, MO; and Rick Cowens of Rawlins, WY and wife, Jackie of Thomasville, MO; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Reba Hurst of West Plains, MO; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Aldon Cowens, Calvin Cowens and Columbus Cowens.
Visitation will be today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Thomasville First Baptist Church, with Brother Gerald Bruner officiating under the direction of Clary Funeral Home of Alton. Burial will be in Jolliff Cemetery under the direction of Clary Funeral Home of Alton.
