ABBOTT, FLOYD HAMPTON — Floyd Hampton Abbott died in the Veterans hospital in Lincoln, Neb., May 16, 1972, at the age of 77 years 4 months and 3 days.
The only child of Al C. Abbott and Elizabeth Nichols Abbott, he was born January ??, 1895, on a farm in Red ??county near Lebanon, ??. He came with his parents to live on a farm four miles southeast of Fairmont, Neb. While living there, he attended high school in Fairmont
Subsequently he worked in Kansas City, Mo. While there he enlisted in World War I. He was in combat frequently. He was gravely wounded and was discharged January 11, 1919. With his honorable discharge, ????
He was married to Thelma Fisher at Aurora, Neb. ??? 10, 1919. They operated a garage in Henderson Neb., for a time and then came to Fairmont where they made their home for several years. He was a rural mail carried in this area for 37 years, most of the time on rural route 2, Fairmont. He retired from this service in ????
He played baseball as a young man and remained an enthusiastic fan all of his life. He thought the game should be played (as well as the game of life) according to the rules.
His wife died February 16, 1954. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betty), Mrs. Robert M. Schelkopf and their two children, Sherri Lea Schelkopf and Robert Shane Schelkopf.
Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer-Harris funeral home in Geneva at 2 p. m. Thursday, May 18, 1972 with Rev. John E. Stayton officiating. Barbara Foster of Geneva sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Beyond the sunset” with Mrs. Willard H. Foster, also of Geneva serving as organist.
Pallbearers were Frank Domling, Fred fisher, Kenneth Kness, Earl Manning, Ed Votipka and John Votipka. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
