Laura was the daughter of William W. Fanning and Elizabeth M Martin. Her death certificate lists her birthplace as Texas and those of her parents' as Mississippi. Laura lived in Chickasha for 30 years before her death, most of that time with her husband, Edgar Samuel Addy.

Edgar and Laura were married in Hunt County, where they both grew up. Hunt Co. is located about 25 miles northeast of Dallas. The county was formed in 1846 from parts of Fannin and Nacogdoches counties. Edgar S. Addy at age 25, was living with the Fannings by the way, as hired help.
