Ralph Marvin Aikin, oldest son of Ollie and Bertha Aikin, was born on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska, September 29, 1899. Ralph passed away at the good Samaritan Center in Nelson Thursday, March 8, 1984, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 8 days.

He was baptized as a young boy in the Christian Church by Rev. V. E. Shirley and remained a member of that church until the time of death.

Ralph attended school at the Oxbow School, north of Nelson, and Nelson High School for the ninth grade, leaving school as he was needed to help with the farming.

April 5, 1922, he was married to Dortha the Mae Swartz in Nelson at the home of the bride's parents, Arch and Fannie Swartz. To this union were born one daughter and one son.

Ralph spent his entire life in the Nelson community. He was a member of the Nelson Masonic Lodge # 77 and Order of the Eastern Star # 27.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Willie, and one sister, Mary Hinz.

Loved ones left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his faithful wife, Dortha of Elk Creek Manor in Nelson; loving children, Eileen Joy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ramon Aikin and wife, Joan of Norwalk, California; five grandchildren, Deborah Joy Moeller of Colorado Springs, Colorado, James Joy of Lincoln, Chris Joy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rebecca Aikin of Downey, California, and Robert Aikin of Norwalk, California; four great grandsons, Jeremy, Gabriel and Nathan Moeller of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Michael Joy of Fairmont; four sisters, Helen Mercier of Pasco, Washington, Harriet Bigley of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ruth Richling of Beatrice and Maxine Olderog of Richardson, Texas; and one brother, Joe R. Aikin of Beatrice.

Memorial services were held Monday, March 12, at 2 p.m., from the First Christian Church in Nelson, with the Rev. Richard Markland, pastor of the church, officiating. Masonic rites were by Nelson Masonic Lodge # 77. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Myron Joy, Jr., Howard Olson, Ira Adams, Russ Snyder, Robert Strickland and Clifford Adamson.

Klawitter-Price Funeral Home, Nelson, was in charge of the arrangements.
