Dau of Daniel Baker and Nancy Lake
m: William Marion Baker
From The Holt County sentinel., September 25, 1908
"Mrs. Martha Baker was born in Mercer county, Kentucky, September 21, 1844, and died at Forest City, Mo., September 18, 1908, aged 63 years, 11 months and 27 days.
She was married to William Baker at Bedford, Indiana, September 22, 1858. To this union 12 children were born, seven of whom are living and married. Twenty-five grand and six great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother: a number of nephews and nieces and a large circle of relatives and friends mourn the departure of this kind hearted Christian woman to her rest beyond the skies.
Mrs. Baker was converted and baptized in 1903 at a meeting held by Elder W. H. Hardman at that place. She was strong in the faith and love of the Gospel and died in its triumphs. The home of Mrs. William Baker was always the preachers refuge and resting place, and these sisters were the Marys and Marthas that ministered to their wants.
"She has gone to her rest and we will not deplore her,
Through sadness and sorrow is brought to the home.
We shall meet and rest where the blighted flowers shall blossom never more to fade
Where the shadowed life shall brighten never more to shade."
The funeral was preached at the church in Forbes on the 19th Inst by Elder W. H. Hardman from the language of Paul in the 5th chapter of 2 corini and 2 verses "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heaven." How happy are those who can appreciate these lines to them selves as this sister could.
The sympathy of the community goes out to William Baker and family in this bereavement. May He also doeth all things well comfort and sustain them."
