The Rev. John Wesley "Jack" Acker, 92, passed away in Maranatha Manor. Jack was born to John and Minnie (Fallin) Acker. Married to Lois Marguarite Van Hall in 1928, and to this union were born Gary Lewis Acker and John Wesley "Jackie" Acker Jr. Lois preceded him in death in 1962, Jackie passed away in 1966, and Gary died in 2000. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert, and a great-grandson, Jeffrey David Acker. A sa young man, Jack worked in several different trades, but his life was forever changed at the age of 29 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He soon committed his life to the ministry and became a faithful member of the Assemblies of God. He was a Sunday School superintendent, did street preaching and eventually pioneered a church, Calvary Assembly in Walnut Grove, which he pastored for 23 years. He worked at the Gospel Publishing House for 33 years until his retirement in 1976. Survivors include his wife of almost 37 years, Ruth Marguerite Rhodes; daughter Kathy Dedmon; eleven grandchildren, John David Acker and wife Leslie, Sherlyn Snow and husband Ron, Mark Acker and wife Amy, Melissa Warren and husband Jonathan, Jonathan Acker, Luke Acker, Elizabeth Acker, Tiffany Acker, Theresa Marchandise and husband Bruno, Tonya Smith, and Todd Dedmon; eleven great-grandchildren, Scott Jordan, Daniel Snow and wife Dayna, and Ryan Snow and wife Dana, Amy and husband Matthew Edwards, Jack Lewis Acker, Ashley Smith and Hailey Smith, Brynden Cann, Corey Cann, Briana Marchandise, and Amber Dedmon; and five g r e a t g r e at-grandchildren, Destiny, Cage and Chance Jordan, Charity and Sarah Snow. Other survivors include brother-in-law Gene Rhodes, his wife Evelyn, and their daughter, Brenda, and daughters-in-law Phyllis Jean Acker, Donna Acker, and Janet Bunn and her husband, Jack. Visitation with the family will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, and services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Maranatha Village with Rev. Roger Perkin officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
