Birth: 2nd of four of mother's & five of father's known children in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri.

Census: 1920, age 1-10/12 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with parents & two siblings at 316 Centennial street, father an attorney.

Census: 1930, age 11 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with widowed father & three siblings at 1238 south Maple street, father a lawyer.

Census: 1940, age 22 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri appears to be in a Mr Pratz home with three siblings & brother-in-law at 1601 south Main street, a trimmer at shoe factory.

~ Based upon information within his wife's memorial: During World War II, "Betty" was employed at Fort Knox, Kentucky while Walter was in Europe. They moved to Coffeyville, Montgomery county, Kansas where they lived until moving to Waxahachie, Ellis county, Texas in 1963. They then moved to DeSoto, Dallas county, Texas in 1974.

~ ~ I found a little information on him in the 'Harbaugh History' book (published 1947); he was apparently still alive at the time the book was written. The following is what page 45 had for him courtesy of Valarie on 02-12-2013, copied from his father's memorial page:

"Annalee Bettie Harbaugh married August 31, 1940 to Walter Elijah Bailey, Jr., called 'Lige' (b. 4/8/1918 at Carthage). He was in WWII. 37 months, 20th Armored Div. in Europe, as a staff sergeant from 1/28/1943 to 2/14/1946. Son of Walter E. Bailey and Adeline Withers of Springfield, MO. His father was a Judge of Court of Appeals. He is a Baptist, she is a Christian."

Death: in Desoto, Dallas county, Texas, SSDI.

Father: Judge Walter Elijah Bailey b: 8 JUL 1885 Jasper county, Missouri.
Mother: Adeline Aretta Withers b: 20 JUL 1889 Deepwater, Henry county, Missouri.
