Birth: Sep. 10, 1849
New York, USA
Death: Jan. 2, 1932
Custer County
Nebraska, USA

Jasper Horton Brand was a Civil War Veteran. Jasper was a drummer in the Northern Army at the young age of 14 years. He had storied about his age so he could serve in the army. Jasper moved to Grand Island, NE from Malone, N.Y. with his two brothers, Wallace and Fred, and his two sisters, Nelly and Ida.

He met Mary Abbie Hughes and they married on June 27, 1893. This same date Mary Abbie Hughes bought the 160 acre farm.

Jasper and Mary farmed the land and raised their children on this farm. Mary Abbie made beautiful quilts. She had bolts anchored in the ceiling of her living room so her quilting frame could be raised or lowered. Jasper suffered a stroke in 1920. Mary Abbie and Jasper bought a house in Ansley, and rented the farm. (After the deaths of Jasper and Mary Abbie), the farm was inherited by their sons, Fred and Wilbur.
