CUMBERLAND Alice Eleanor (Sutton) Apsey, 82, of Cumberland, went to be with her heavenly family on Friday, July 20, 2007.

Born Dec. 5, 1924, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Eleanor Belle (Ziler) and A. Renz Sutton.

She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Florence Hensey Sutton, whom she dearly loved. Her husband, Robert Apsey, died March 5, 1993; her daughter, Jenny Stegmaier, died March 12, 1994; and her son, Troy Apsey, died Nov. 25, 2004.

Mrs. Apsey is survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Lisa M. Apsey, of Cresaptown; her sister-in-law, Doris Oglebay, of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Autumn and Sutton Apsey, of Cresaptown, and Michael Stegmaier, of Rawlings; and five nieces. She had many friends; three whom she loved like sisters, Virginia Robinette, Ann Vandergrift, and Helen Davis.

She was a 1943 graduate of Allegany High School.

Alice was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the WELCA; Cumberland Garden Club, Salvation Army Auxiliary, and the Area Art Alliance.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A. 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The committal service will be conducted in the chapel at Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery-Rocky Gap, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Yelovich officiating.

Interment will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 1601 Frederick St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

Special thanks to Dr. Abraham at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Dr. Bollino, Candy Adams, and Hospice care. They were her angels on earth. Also, thanks to J.W. and the staff at Devlin Manor for their wonderful care. Alice was dearly loved there and was very proud to be their Valentine Queen.

If she wasn't happily working in her garden, Alice loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
