William "Bill" E. Blythe, 80, of Chanute, Kansas, died early Saturday morning on April 28, 2012, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

Bill was born on August 13, 1931, at Council Grove, Kansas, to Cephus Carey and Lottie May (Weston) Blythe.

He graduated from Dwight High School, and attended Pittsburg State University.

He joined the Air Force on June 3, 1949. He was discharged on December 2, 1952.

Bill was married to Mildred Hoover on July 15, 1951. She died in 1988.

Fifteen years ago he became a companion of Mary Schlotterbeck and they shared a home in Chanute.

He taught mechanics for several years. Besides Kansas, he had lived and worked in California. He worked for the ABZ Manufacturing in Madison as a machinist.

He was preceded by his parents.

He is survived by his companion, Mary of the home; a son Calvin Blythe, of Hutchinson, KS, a daughter Anita Blythe, of Eureka, KS, 3 grandchildren Matthew, Corey, and Levi Blythe; his brothers, Andrew Blythe and wife Ann, of Council Grove, KS, Robert Blythe and wife Joan, Grove, OK, Don Blythe and wife Luann, of Winchester, KY, and Cecil Blythe and wife Laynetta, of Thorton, CO; his sisters, Elaine Blanton, of Alma, KS, Sara Kerstetter and husband Ray, of Newton, KS, and Audra Wehling of Longmont, CO; Mary's son, Harley Schlotterbeck and wife Sheila, of Chanute, KS; his children Shawn Schlotterbeck, and Sherri Brothers and husband Jason; grandchildren Colton and Elizabeth Brothers; several nephews and nieces; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the Barton City Cemetery, northwest of Liberal, Missouri.

Contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital and sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
