Uncle John Allen passed away.

J.P. Allen died at his home in Metz at 3:25 Monday. He had been an invalid about two years, but had been confined to his bed for about a month.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday at 2:00p.m. conducted by Rev. E.D. Lewis pastor of M.E. Church in Rich Hill, MO. Burial was in Balltown cemetery.

John Pleasant Allen, son of Locky and Martha Allen was born in Ben Salem, Moore County, North Carolina, March 3, 1846. He was married to Isabell Lovdey Sewell, May 9, 1865, sixty years ago last month.

From North Carolina they moved to Ohio where they lived a year and then came to Missouri locating in Howell County. From Howell County, MO to Bates County, MO.

About 30 years ago they came to Metz Township where he spent the remainder of his life.

During the latter part of the Civil War he served as a volunteer in Confederate Army.

In 1903 he established the first bank in Metz, MO. And the Allen heirs still own the volt doors (vault doors?) in the Bank of Metz, MO.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and held membership in the Foster, MO. Lodge. He was active in political circles, and served two terms as township trustee, as well as other offices of trust.

Uncle John was an honest upright citizen, and was a man who all respected.

The Balltown cemetery is located at Ball town, MO on part of the land where a battle was fought during the civil war.
