RURAL HALL, NC Mr. Gordon Freeman Ashburn Sr, 71, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center.

A 2:00 pm celebration of his home going was held Monday, March 22, 2010 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Brown officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Crestview Memorial Park.

He was born May 5, 1938 in Stokes County to Issac William Ashburn Sr. and Lizzie Freeman Ashburn.

He served his country proudly in the US Navy as an SN and was retired from RJ Reynolds with 40 plus years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Heath Ashburn in 2003; two daughters, Cynthia Jayne Duncan and Emily Ann Godfrey; one sister; Minnie Lee Brooks; and one brother, John J. Ashburn.

He is survived by four children, Donald Wayne Ashburn of Mocksville, Gordon Freeman Ashburn Jr. (Mary) of Walnut Cove, Heather A. Cousar(William) of Mocksville and Kenneth Wayne Ashburn of Walnut Cove; one sister; Martha A. Webb (Glenn) of Stoneville; one brother, James Timothy Ashburn of Madison, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
