Anna Marie Batignani, 88, of 17 James Street, East Hartford, passed away on Sunday (January 3, 2010) after a long illness.
She was born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Pietro and Rochetta (DiSimone) Cavallo, and was predeceased by her husband of fifty-seven years, Serafino Batignani.
Anna was devoted to her family and was well known around town for "always cooking something good". She made the best Italian cookies and especially pizzelles. She was an avid New York Yankees fan and her mood was directly related to the score.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lawrence of Enfield, Anthony & Renee of South Glastonbury, Rochetta & John Gliha of Tampa, FL, Michael & Claudette of Kennebunk, ME, Armida & John Lemke, II of Hebron, Fred & Carol of Port St. Lucie, FL., and Laurie Batignani of East Windsor; ten grandchildren, Lawrence Batignani, Jr., Deanna (Bothur) Hinebaugh, Theodore Bothur, Tammy Lemke, Shannon (Lemke) Cruz, John Lemke III, Scott Lemke, Rose Batignani, Crystal Batignani, and Alison Batignani, and eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Batignani) Fiano Chieffo of Bolton. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Susan (Cavallo) Toce, Frank Cavallo, Mary (Cavallo) Casasanta, Amilio Cavallo, Cecelia (Cavallo) Sullivan, and Alfred Cavallo.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 15 Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford.
Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery.
