EVANSVILLE, IND. —
James Edward Rhoten, 85, Harrisburg, passed away at 7:53 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born on May 14, 1925, in Greencastle, Ind., to the late Elijah and Aleta (Raines) Rhoten. On July 5, 1947, he married Helen Louise Wasson, who survives.
James was a pipe fitter; he previously owned a farm in northern Indiana and owned and operated the Travelers Motel in Harrisburg. James was chairman of the board for the City Service Union Board and was a member of the Pipe Fitters union. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army.
Surviving family members include his wife, Helen Rhoten of Harrisburg; son, Kenneth Rhoten and friend, Angela Holderith of Stoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Francis, Edna and Ann.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at Bethesda Cemetery in Herod. The Rev. Chris Winkleman will officiate. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Harrisburg American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to gather at the cemetery.
