Suggested edit: Cherryville - Mr. William S. "Will" Alexander, 90, of Delview Road, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Peak Resources in Cherryville.

Mr. Alexander was born in Cleveland County, NC, on February 2, 1927 a son of the late Everett G. Alexander and Sibbie Frances Self Alexander. He was retired after 36 years as a truck driver from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation of Cherryville. Mr. Alexander was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville where he served as a former deacon and was the lead usher for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a tank driver.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Costner Alexander; a great grandson, Ned Dellinger; brothers, Ralph, Blanche, Roy and Hal Alexander; a sister, Mae Hord; a half-brother, Charles E. Alexander and a half sister, Helen Gillespie.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Alexander and wife Linda; Gerald Alexander and wife Bonny all of Cherryville; a daughter, Melissa Hovis and husband Bobby of Lincolnton; a sister, Frances Griggs; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Alexander and Rachel all of Cherryville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM at First Baptist Church in Cherryville and at other times the family will be at the home of Billy and Linda Alexander, 201 Karen Court, Cherryville.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 11:30AM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.

Military rites will be provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard following the church service.

Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the Handyman Ministry or to God's Planned Harvest c/o First Baptist Church, 301 E. First Street, Cherryville, NC 28021.
