Erna Lorene Baer, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Waunakee Manor Health Care Center.
Erna was born Feb. 19, 1916, to Eduard and Emilie (Pivnitzke) Seling of Cottage Grove. Erna had two brothers and two sisters: Edward, Arthur, Emma and Alma. Erna was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Madison. Erna Seling married Sidney Baer of Madison on July 13, 1940. They had four children: Patricia, Eloise, Richard and Suzanne.
Erna is survived by her son, Richard (Kathy) Baer of Madison; two daughters, Patricia (Clinton) Harrison of Port Wing, and Suzanne (Rev. Jon) Wolff of Caledonia, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Alma Homburg of Cottage Grove.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward and Arthur Seling; a sister, Emma Austin; her husband, Sidney; daughter, Eloise Wright and son-in-law, Ronald Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, with the Rev. Mark F. Bartels officiating. Family will greet friends on Friday at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturday at church after 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Cottage Grove.
In lieu of flowers, Erna requested that donations be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
