Gene Coleman Blevins, 84, a lifelong resident of Somerville, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013, in the loving presence of his family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at noon at Somerville United Methodist Church with Bro. Al Dean and Bro. John Walker officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Historical Somerville Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Blevins was born April 15, 1929, in Somerville to Silas Henry Blevins and Mary Betsy Ruth Moore Blevins. He was married to his wife, Faye Blevins on April 4, 1953, until her passing, and was a member of the Somerville United Methodist Church. He joined the U.S. Army on March 29, 1951, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a Supply Transportation Specialist. He worked for Morgan Sheet Metals, then worked for 30 years at Wolverine Tube until his retirement. He was a "master" of small engine repair and loved fishing on the Tennessee River. He raised beagles and loved rabbit, deer and dove hunting. He was an avid Alabama football fan and Atlanta Braves fan and he loved his family and his beloved dog, Fuzzball. He was a past chief and founding member of the Somerville Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Fay Jones Blevins; his parents; daughter, Janice Blevins Morgan; sister, Dorothy Mae Walker; three infant grandchildren, Jennifer, Dianne and Dennis Morgan; and two sons-in-law, Gary Writesel and Frankie Morgan.

Survivors include one son, Keith Blevins (Angie) of Somerville; two daughters, Wanda Blevins Sterling (Robin) of Owens Crossroads and Deborah Blevins Writesel of Lacey's Spring; one sister, Oddlee Hamilton of Decatur; four grandchildren, Wayne Writesel, Kaitlin Blevins, Cory Wilhite and Riley Wilhite; and two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Writesel and Aden Wilhite.

Pallbearers will be Ray Watts, Tim Walker, Alvin Morgan, Cory Wilhite, Riley Wilhite and Wayne Writesel.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Roy Fairbanks, Bobby Kent, Valter Wade, Robert Maples, Doyle Houser, Gary Landers, John Wayne Mooneyham, Jack Mooneyham, Joe Mooneyham and Troy Franks.

In lieu of flowers, make memorial donations to the Somerville United Methodist Church.
