Ret. CW4 James Russell Anderson, 62, of 11101 Fortner Street, died Sunday, June 8, 1997 at Flowers Hospital following an extended illness.
Graveside services, with full military rites, will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating and Byrd Funeral home directing. A wake service will be held at the funeral home 7 p.m. tonight.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Anderson was born July 27, 1934 in York, Pennsylvania and lived the early years of his life in Washington, D.C. He was a veteran of the US Army, a helicopter pilot, having served two tours in Vietnam and a tour in Korea prior to his retirement after twenty-three years of service. He later was employed with UNC for twelve years as a flight instructor until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Professional Helicopter Pilots Association.
Survivors include his wife, Jean L. Colcord Anderson, Dothan; a son, David M. Anderson, Huntsville; two daughters, Laura L. Reeves, Dothan, Lisa L. Myers, Ft. Campbell, KY; a grandson, James Ryan Myers.
