Oliver C. Allender (Ollie), a resident of Dothan, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, August 4, 2001.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2001 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Lawson Bryan officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. A private entombment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers his family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, Wiregrass Chapter of American Red Cross or Wiregrass Hospice.
Mr. Allender was born May 16, 1920 in Zanesville, Ohio and lived most of his life in Ohio until he moved to Dothan ten years ago. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara.
Mr. Allender's career was always concerned with transportation, first Railway Express and then Commercial Motor Freight managing terminals in various cities in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Wilbur Walton Sunday School Class, the Peanut Ramblers Camping Club and Family Motor Coach Association. Mr. Allender was a 32nd degree Mason for over 50 years. Before cancer curtailed his activities he enjoyed volunteering for American Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Lanning Allender, two step-daughters and their families, Jane and Jim Hooper, Bill and Elizabeth Hooper of Corpus Christi, Texas, JoAnne and Bob Rother, Rebecca and Travis Rother of Columbus, Indiana.
