Frank Adamovich
Frank Adamovich, 88, of Eagle River, Wis., passed away at his home Friday, Dec. 9, 2005.
Frank was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Hoopston, Ill. He was the son of Adam and Rose Adamovich.
The Adamovich family moved to Eagle River in 1920, a period of time when many other Croatian families settled in the area.
On Oct. 12, 1940, Frank married Gladys Karenke. This year the couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Frank and Gladys owned and operated Frankie's Northside Grocery, located on North Railroad Street. They were in business for 38 1/2 years and retired in 1983. Throughout these years, they established many lifelong friendships with their customers.
Frank was a devoted family man who dedicated his life to loving and caring for his family. He loved the North Woods and enjoyed time spent with family at their hunting cabin. He was an avid trout fisherman and deer hunter. Golfing was also a favorite pastime.
In the 1930s, as a teenager, he became a member of the popular Eagle River Northernaire/ Falcons hockey team that won the state championship in 1948. He was also selected to the All State team.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Jim and Steve; sisters, Rose and Mary; and granddaughter, Krystal.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; sons, Ron, Gene (Pat) and Mike (Kim); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Adam; and sisters, Katherine Thompson and Ann St. Louis. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Dee Dee.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
