Artie Rhodes Brown died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, in Wesley Manor Nursing Home Dothan, Alabama. She was 100.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Underwood officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Tuesday until service time. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Wiregrass Hospice or Wesley Manor retirement Center in Dothan, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her husband L.C. Brown. "Miss Artie or Tart," as she was affectionally known, was born Dec. 23, 1904, and lived most of her life in the Arguta Community. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She loved the people of her community and was always available to lend a helping hand. In the early years she was frequently called upon to provide care and comfort for the sick and expectant mothers until the doctor arrived. Later she continued this service as an employee of Dale County Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Halstead of Dothan; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Jean Brown of Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren, Celia Baggett (Wayne), Paul Halstead (Susan), Jane Weatherly (Terry), Ronald Brown (Darla), Lea Bennett (Robert), Patricia Brown (Paul); nine, great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren also survive.
