FIRST RESIDENT WAS LAID TO REST LAST SUNDAY
Mrs. Hannes Wunder Had Resided in Same Home Since Manning Began.
Rev. Coates Officiated.
Perhaps no greater shock has come to this community, than the announcement on Thursday morning that Mrs. Hannes Wunder had passed away Wednesday evening about 6:30 at the St. Anthony hospital at Carroll. Mrs. Wunder was taken suddenly ill on March 1st and it was at first thought that she was apparently recovering. However, a few days before her demise, her condition became serious and she was taken to the hospital at Carroll, and in spite of the kindest of care from her family and constant attention by the attending physicians, her condition gradually grew weaker day by day, and she responded to the call of God.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wunder was born January 7th, 1854, in Scott County, Iowa. At the age of 23 years she was married to John Albert. Five children were born to this union, three of whom are still living. John Albert died in 1890, having lived the ten previous years in Manning.
In 1892 the deceased married Hannes Wunder and to this union one son was born. Our departed was confirmed and was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She really lived her Christianity and was always a woman of good works. In fact, her life's joy was in serving others. She graciously cared for her husband's parents, brother and aunt, and raised a girl who later became Mrs. Minnie Hudson. Always enjoying the best of health she was conscious almost to the last. She took sick on March 1st and after a brief illness passed away on the evening of March 6th, 1929, at St. Anthony hospital, at the age of 75 years, two months.
She was pre-deceased by her son, George Albert almost six years ago. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Hannes Wunder; four sons, John Albert, Henry Albert, Emiel Albert and Herman Wunder, all of Manning. Two grandsons, Jimmie Albert and Keith Wunder; one sister, Mrs. Lena Hansen, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. and Miss Ella Hansen, Maquoketa, Iowa; Mrs. Bertha Vogt and daughters, Mrs. Ferdinand Kruse and Mrs. August Mohr, Charlotte, Iowa; Lafayette Kruse, Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Dora Gosch, Clinton, Iowa.
Mrs. Wunder was blessed with a pleasing personality. She cultivated a wide circle of friends. She was interested in the community welfare and could be depended upon to assist to the degree that her strength would permit. She made her home a center of hospitality for her friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church,
