LeRoy "Roy" J. Baird was born October 7, 1905, in California to Elmer Baird and Mary "Maime" A. Benight Baird, a couple who married in 1885.

Roy's father, Elmer, was born in Indiana but grew up in Fremont Township, Woodland, Yolo County, California.

Roy's mother, Mary, was born in Colusa, Colusa County, California, and grew up on a sheep ranch.

Roy and his two brothers, Harvey and Elmer, and sisters, Nellie J. and Rosella, grew up in Hydesville and Rohnerville, Humboldt County, California, where their father was a chopper for a logging company. Four other children were born but passed away young, in 1900 or earlier. Rosella also passed away young. Nellie J. married young.

After Roy finished school, he moved to South California Street in O'Neal, California. He worked as an express messenger for the electric railway express.

His wife was the former Dollie Wade Quirolo who grew up in Rawhide in Tuolumne County, California. The couple made their home in Stockton, California, and a daughter was born to them.

Roy passed away June 9, 1966, in San Joaquin County, California. His last residence was Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, 95202.
