Birth: unknown
Death: Feb. 6, 1900
Tuolumne County
California, USA

Age 8

At five o'clock on a Tuesday afternoon, the eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Butzbach of Columbia, entered the house complaining of feeling ill. Her mother took her into her arms to comfort her, and there little Florence fell into eternal sleep within a matter of moments.

It was reported that shortly before her death, Florence had a violent coughing spell and seemed to have suffocated or choked to death. She had been playing out of doors that afternoon and seemed to be perfectly well.

The funeral occurred the Thursday following her death and interment was made in the I. O. O. F. section of the cemetery.

Florence was one of eight children of George H. and Mary Fannie Butzbach. They had lost one other at another time, so by June 1900, only six of their children were alive. The following lists their household at that time.

George H Butzback, age 34
Fannie M Butzback, age 35
Katie L Butzback, age 14
Minnie M Butzback, age 13
Alice L Butzback, age 11
Ray G Butzback, age 7
Pearl V Butzback, age 4
Charlie H Butzback, age 2

In 1900, George's occupation was tinsmith.

After Florence's death, the family, who had come to California from Pennsylvania in the 1890s, moved to Oakland, California where George was a house builder.

In 1910 the number of living children remained at six with Charles being youngest. The following lists their household at that time.

Geo H Butzbach, age 44
Mary F Butzbach, age 45
Catherine Butzbach, age 24
Alice Butzbach, age 21
Ray Butzbach, age 16
Pearl Butzbach, age 14
Charles Butzbach, age 12

In 1920, only Alice and Charles remained at home with their parents. By 1930, all the children had left their parents' home, which in 1930 was in Eden, Alameda County, California.

Sweet, little Florence. It sounds like you had asthma, still sometimes fatal. God must have needed you with Him in heaven.
