Age 56 yrs. Possibly shot and burned to death in his home on the old Stoetzer place that he purchased in 1894. Murder and arson were suspected. His wife and children were still living in Oakland since she refused to move to Glencoe.

In his 1894 registering to vote in Alameda Co. he was described as having lost 2 fingers.
