Fern was the oldest of five children born to Charles and Lula Jensen. Her grandparents had settled in Newton from Denmark in the early 1870s and there were many Jensen and Molzen cousins.
Fern married three husbands and raised two biological children and three step children. She married Hutchison Cooper when she was 21. She married Joseph Arent and then William Messner. Most of the Jensen family moved to Southern California to get away from the cold Kansas winters. Fern lived in California for the remainder of her life and always enjoyed the warm, sunny beaches.
