Charles A. Atherton was born in May 1865, to Isaac Atherton and Sarah Thomas in Tuolumne County, most likely in Chinese Camp.
He and his parents and siblings lived in Chinese Camp where his father was a miner. His sisters were S.J., Rachel A. and Emma. His brothers were George and Frank. There was another sibling that passed away at a young age.
Charles remained single all his life. He lived alone in the Rawhide area (near Jamestown), and was devoted to his trade as a gold miner.
He passed away in Tuolumne County on May 2, 1937 at the age of 71. Unfortunately I did not find an obituary for him in the Sonora newspaper.
