Birth: May, 1857
Kenosha County
Wisconsin, USA
Death: Jul. 16, 1925
Tuolumne County
California, USA

George J. Arentsen was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to George and Barbara Arentsen. He had an older sister, Emma, and younger siblings, Magdalena "Lena", John and Catherine (Kate). At the time of his death, only John was listed in his obituary as surviving him.

News of the death of George J. Arentsen at the County hospital in Sonora reached Columbia on a Thursday afternoon. He was 68.

For a number of years, Mr. Arentsen suffered from a paralytic stroke which caused increasing feebleness and digression over time.

George left home early to start his career in mining. He was a miner in Idaho for more than a decade before he and his brother, John Arentsen, came to California during the Midwinter Fair, a World's Fair that operated from January 27 to July 5 in 1894, in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. They eventually arrived in this county where George engaged in pocket mining in the vicinity of Jackass Hill for many years.

Mr. Arentsen lived in Columbia where he worked in various capacities when his health, never very good, permitted.
He was a quiet, respected citizen who had many friends in the area.

He had been a member of Tuolumne Lodge No. 21, I.O.O.F. and of the Encampment by which fraternity last rights were celebrated.

Interment was in Columbia Cemetery.

Note: Countries in Europe have constantly changed their names and boarders over the years. The parents' birthplaces can be confusing when comparing the entries of census of different decades, but it is because of those changes that occurred over time.

Both brothers were born in Wisconsin and were single men. It is possible that John was married for a time, but I have not yet found solid evidence confirming a marriage, only clues.
