Alexander G. Allen passed away at the age of 69, Tuesday, July 29, 1924, 2:00 p.m., at the Bromley sanitarium in Sonora, where he was surgically treated for ulcers of the stomach two weeks before. He had suffered for many years, but only recently the trouble becoming more acute and painful, and surgery was needed.
Mr. Allen was born in San Francisco in October 1854, but his parents were pioneers of Tuolumne County. He was a farmer and never married. He owned a farm in Merced County but returned to Big Hill approximately 1904, to help his brother and sister, Grant and Grace Allen, run the family farm.
In addition to Grant and Grace, he was survived by two other brothers, William and James of Ceres, and another sister, Mrs. Carrie Cassinelli of LaGrange.
Alexander was reputed as an industrious man of good habits and big heart.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the I. O. O. F. hall in Columbia, under the auspices of Tuolumne Lodge No. 10, I.O.O.F. and Columbia Parlor No. 258, N.S.G.W. Interment was in the public cemetery. A great many friends and relatives attended.
He was a member of Willow Lodge No. 121, I. O. O. F., of Snelling.
