DORSET - Frances F. Adams, for many years a summer resident of Dorset, Vermont, died at her home in Delray Beach, Florida, August 31. She was 103. Throughout her life she had four sustaining interests: art, music, gardening, and birds. At 102 she was still painting, producing a succession of small watercolors recalling the landscapes of Provence she had visited long ago. Increasing infirmity prevented her from following this project with a series based on her summers in Dorset where she was active at the Southern Vermont Art Center as a student, a docent, and a featured artist. Her gardens and grounds at her Morse Hill Road home in Dorset were works of art and love and were further enhanced by her many feathered visitors like the Indigo Bunting, the Scarlet Tananger, and Evening Grosbeaks.

Frances Virginia Franklin was born June 19, 1910 in St. Louis the daughter of Albert A. Franklin and Lois Whiteside Franklin. She attended the University of Chicago and later studied at the Cleveland Art Institute and Chicago's Art Institute. In Chicago where she lived for many years with her first husband, Frederick W. Turner, Jr., she was a devoted opera-goer, served a term as director of the John H. Vanderpoel Art Association, and led fundraising drives for Skokie Valley Hospital. In the late 1960s she left Chicago with her second husband, Welles M. Adams, eventually settling in Delray Beach.

She is survived by three children, Charles H. Turner, Frederick Turner, and Elizabeth Pochoda; seven grandchildren and one step grandchild; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the columbarium at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Delray Beach, and the service will be held there at a date to be determined.
