Richard H. "Rick" Elkins, 62, of Rt. 5, Box 489, Keyser, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at his residence.

Born on March 12, 1942 at Keyser, he was a son of Richard E. Elkins of Keyser and Virginia Warnick of Nikep, Md., and his stepmother, Edith Elkins of Keyser. He was reared by his grandmother, Clella Elkins along with two of his cousins, Bob and Kenny Elkins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother and a half brother, Norman A. Elkins, Sr.

Mr. Elkins was formerly employed with the Mettiki Coal Company and Penn Ventilator Company. He attended the Keyser Church of God.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife of five years, Wanda L. (Heavener) Elkins; an adopted son, Rusty Elkins of Fountainhead, Keyser; two stepsons, Kevin Whetzel and wife Glena of Fort Ashby and Donny Whetzel and wife Cheryl of Cresaptown, Md.; one stepdaughter, Teresa Ann Thompson and husband Michael of Hickory, N.C.; one sister, Eleanor Haggerty and husband Bill of Nikep, Md.; two half brothers, Johnny Bartlett of Cumberland, Md., and Roger Elkins; two half sisters; Helen Bostjancic and friend Bob Scott of Lonaconing, Md., and Mary Muir and husband Mike of Nikep. Also surviving are seven stepgrandchildren, Kolby, Aerron, Andrew and Emily Whetzel and Ashley, Courtney and Mallory Thompson and his "special boy," Andrew William Edward Whitehead.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, October 3 from 1-2 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, October 3 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Sears officiating.

Private interment will be in the Goldizen Family Cemetery, Maysville, W.Va.
