James Martin was born 1748 in Virginia and died in Fayette Co., Kentucky on Tate's Creek Road in 1846. He married Judith Young. James came to Kentucky about 1786 after having served in the Revolutionary War.
James Martin applied for pension on 14 Mar 1833, age 74 years last August. He enlisted in Albermarle County, Virginia in 1779. He also served in Wayne's Indian War. He stated that he left his father's house in 1788 and never lived there afterward. He was also in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse with William M Shreve (James' son Lewis and William's daughter Ann married)
James Martin was placed on the pension role of Jessamine County, Kentucky in 1833 at the age of 75 for service of private in the Virginia Line during the Revolutionary War.
Known family of James and Judith are Amanda Arthurs, Letitia Metcalf, Richard, Lewis, and Luther ; there could be others. James and Judith are buried in the family graves near the home on Tate's Creek Road.
