Elmer J. Schmitt Taken By Death; Rites Wednesday

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church and at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. P. Schmitt, Wednesday afternoon for Elmer J. Schmitt. Mr. Schmitt died Sunday, April 2, at a Lincoln hospital as a result of influenza complicated by an arm injury which he received when a senior in Madison high school and from which he never fully recovered.

Thirty six years, one month, and 24 days old at the time of his death, Mr. Schmitt was born in Madison on February 8, 1903. He was graduated from Madison high school in 1922 and attended the University of Nebraska, being graduated from that institution in 1927 after taking a business course.

Throughout his college course he was handicapped by the poor health which resulted from his arm injury, but despite this handicap he completed his work and a high standing.

In September, 1928, Mr. Schmitt married Miss Hilda Kleinbecker of Lincoln and to this union two sons were born, Thomas Valentine and Peter K.

Surviving are his wife and two sons, Tom and Peter, 9 and 5 years old, his parents and three brothers, William of Grant's Pass, Oregon, Paul of Burbank, California, and Cecil, Des Moines.

Following the services at the church burial was in the Evangelical cemetery in Green Garden community.

All of the pallbearers for the service save two had been former classmates of Mr. Schmitt. They were James Gilland of Orchard, James Vrzal of Norfolk, George Owens, Ed Vrzal, all former classmates, and W. Earl Witten and Ed Schwartz.
