Served under Captain McCarty, wounded at the Battle of Stone's River in the vicinity of Murfreesboro, Tennessee on 31 Dec 1862, severely wounded in the face and head. Discharged due to disability on about Jan 2 1863.
Born circa 1827 in Orange County, North Carolina. His parents were Dixon and Letitia May Carroll. He left his wife, Sarah A. Carroll who remarried John T. Pierson and who had three children with Nathaniel; Ida born 1/8/61, George born 1/11/63, and William born 9/4/64.
