James E. "Blackie" Blackwell, 97, passed away in San Angelo, Texas on September 16, 2012.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Blackwell Cemetery. Reverend Ward Hayes will officiate.

Mr. Blackwell was born in Paris, Texas on March 12, 1915. He married Francis Evelyn Goodwin and loved her dearly. Mr. Blackwell enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing and talking with friends. He, also, loved taking care of fruit trees and reading.

Survivors include: Son-Robert E. Blackwell of Fort Worth; Grandchildren-Gwen Leger and her husband, Marlin, of Gretna, Louisiana, Mark Blackwell of San Angelo, Scott Blackwell of Knoxville, Tennessee; Grandson-in-law-Rocky Hummel of Knoxville, Tennessee; Great-grandchildren-Jessica Blackwell of New Orleans, Louisiana, Sabrina "Bina" Lozano and her husband, Kevin, of Abilene, Tanya Blackwell of Abilene, Katie Blackwell of Abilene, Donnie Sigur, Jr. of New Orleans, Louisiana; and 7 Great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn "Babe" Blackwell, on December 24, 2004, his parents, his daughter-in-law, Jane Blackwell, his granddaughter, Gay Hummel, on October 20, 2010, and his brothers, Lawrence Blackwell, Herman Blackwell, and John Blackwell.
